March Playlist: Moody Music

March Playlist - Moody Music

Unless my iPod is dead (specifically my iPod Classic—I still carry around that vintage gem), you will always see me with my headphones in, listening to music. What am I listening to, you might be wondering? It’s certainly a question I always think about when I’m people watching as I walk around downtown.

The better question is, what really gets me up and moving? The answer: Music with attitude, spunk and a perfect mix of confidence and cockiness. It gets me walking faster and feeling like a total boss—but, most importantly, it keeps me awake. I can almost forego my afternoon Starbucks with the right mix of music.

Here are some of my favourite feisty finds for my Moody Music playlist.

“Wow.” – Post Malone

No one can bring Post Malone down—he’s busy travelling the world, playing beer pong in various cities, releasing smash after smash, and just living his best life. With lyrics like “It’s a moment when I show up, got ‘em sayin’ wow,” and “Yeah, your grandmama probably know me,” consider this the modern-day “TiK ToK.” Also, let it be a remember to tell yourself ‘wow’ – you’re pretty awesome.

5 Lessons 2018 Taught Me

5 Lessons 2018 Taught Me - Angela McLean

It feels like just a few days ago that I was counting down to the start of 2018! When the clock struck midnight, I kicked off what would turn out to be one of the most influential years of my life. Now we’re about to do it all again!

Looking back, this past year has been one of opportunity, change and plenty of lessons learned – but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. To wrap things up, I challenged myself to categorize the year’s ups and downs into 5 lessons that I’ll be carrying with me into 2019.

1. Not everyone’s going to like you – and that’s OK.

Growing up we hear this a lot but it can get complicated when we want to impress certain people or attract specific attention or even just have a certain number of friends. The reality is that everyone has different taste, and some people are just permanently bitter. You could change everything about yourself and still not please people – so don’t! Live life for you. Find the people that really matter – those that love you for who you are and are there for you at your highs and your lows – and keep them real close. If you’re feeling down because your circle’s smaller than you’d like it to be, or you’re caught up in comparison, remember that everything is not always as it seems. People can have tons of “friends” but no real ride-or-dies – quality over quantity always!

Re-Introducing Me

Re-Introducing Me - Angela McLean

OH HEY! Fancy running into you here. Welcome back to my blog (and if you’re new here, nice to e-meet you!) If something about this site looks different to you, you just might be onto something. Spare a minute to read on so I can tell you more.

The last time I formally introduced myself to you was in 2011 when I launched this website. It served as a platform to host my digital resume and miscellaneous content I wanted to share – tidbits about my life and passions, reviews of movies and music and giveaways for things I knew you would like. To kick off the launch, an ecstatic lil’ me wrote you a post titled “Introducing Me.”

“I started writing when I was 7,” I wrote in that post, “and I am still pursuing my dream and loving the ride.” That hasn’t changed. In fact, I love it even more now.

But I was 13 when I shared that – 13!!! A few weeks ago, I turned 21. A LOT of growth has happened in the past 8 years – more than I could ever summarize into one blog post (or two, or three or four.) Fortunately, I think personal growth is the best and healthiest thing we experience.

I’ve had this line from Grey’s Anatomy (said by the amazing Meredith Grey) in my Facebook quotes section since I opened my account.

“Change; we don’t like it, we fear it, but we can’t stop it from coming. We either adapt to change or we get left behind. And it hurts to grow, anybody who tells you it doesn’t is lying. But here’s the truth…the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, oh, sometimes change is good. Oh, sometimes, change is…everything.”

I read it often and get inspired each time just as I did when I first read it. If we don’t allow ourselves to change, and open ourselves to it, we’ll never grow – and where’s the fun in that?!

That said, I’m ready to share one change I’ve been wanting to make for some time now…and it’s right here in front of you.

Welcome to my new, revamped BLOG! I’ve been working on this in the background all summer and I am so happy to FINALLY have it live. It’s me in every possible way and I’m so ready to share all of the exciting content I’ve been developing (and the awesome photos you will see in each post ♡). You’ll hear more about my travels and recommendations should you find yourself in any of those amazing places, the music I’m listening to, people who inspire me, events I attend and much much more. The best way for me to describe it is the perfect amount of everything.

Just like 13-year-old me said, I feel so blessed and can hardly wait for the next part of my journey. That starts right here, right now.

Check back very soon for my next post! & If you want to be the first to know when it goes up, head over to my right sidebar and sign up for email notifications. There will be some special surprises for you loyal readers down the line 😉

Stay awesome xx

Introducing Me

Angela McLean

Hey, it’s Angela. I started writing when I was 7 and I am still pursuing my dream and loving the ride. I hope you enjoy this site which includes samples of my writing. I also enjoy photography, graphic design and web design.

I’m supporting a wonderful charity, BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK (re-branded as ISTHMUS in Canada as of summer 2017), which helps to feed hungry children in our community. Learn more about it on the Blessings in a Backpack/Isthmus page, located in the Giving Back section.

I feel so blessed and I want to thank everyone that’s been there along the way to support me, including my parents, editors, friends, and family.

Who knows what’s ahead? I can hardly wait for the next part of my journey.
