What You Missed at Lady Antebellum’s Secret Session in Toronto

Lady Antebellum Secret Session Toronto

Hot off the heels of their new album ‘Ocean,’ country pop group Lady Antebellum showed “Crazy Love” to their Toronto fans at an exclusive, up close and personal iHeartRadio Secret Session on Nov. 21.

With over 100 of their biggest supporters filling the Lounge at Live Nation space in Liberty Village, the group participated in an on-stage Q&A, led by Pure Country personality Shannon Ella, and a six-song set featuring two recent singles and several fan fave throwbacks.

Q&A

The band has a long recorded history in the city, filming the video for their breakout single “Need You Now” at the Omni King Edward hotel and opening their last summer tour at Budweiser Stage — making Toronto the perfect spot for such an intimate gig.

“[This] is a way for us to kind of make it more about the song[s], and we consider ourselves songwriters first,” Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley explained. “We feel like when we perform … just on piano, there’s something about those lyrics [that] take[s] on a little bit more of a heartbreak and meaning to us… and we get to see everyone’s faces! Great people in Canada.”

Lorde’s Toronto Concert was a Royal Affair

Lorde in Toronto

Electronica/pop/rock songstress Lorde is currently on a full-fledged North American tour in support of her debut disc, ‘Pure Heroine’, which has been certified 2x Platinum in Canada. The “Royals” singer touched down in our home and native land a few days ago for two shows, including an outdoor show this past Friday, September 12 at Toronto’s TD Echo Beach, presented by Live Nation.

Majical Cloudz

Canadian indie/electronic duo Majical Cloudz, consisting of members Devon Welsh and Matthew Otto, kicked off the night with a laid-back set. Matthew played the keyboard on an ironing board while Devon sang and took time to chat with the crowd after each song. The guys have a very unique sound, with some members of the audience calling them a “Canadian Bastille”, but it was refreshingly different and meshed well with Lorde’s style. After singing a selection of songs including “I Do Sing For You”, Devon pointed to one of the planes flying overhead and joked, “That’s our jet. We have to go now!”

[CLOSED] GIVEAWAY: Heffron Drive in Toronto on September 9

Heffron Drive

Kendall Schmidt and Dustin Belt are Heffron Drive, the electro-pop duo ready to bring their infectious melodies, unforgettable hooks, and beamingly beautiful lyrics to the music scene.

Heffron Drive began as a passion project in Kendall’s bedroom in Burbank, California and has grown into a whirlwind endeavor. Kendall met Dustin at a screening for Kendall’s brother’s movie and the two hit it off right away after discovering a shared love for music. Then, they realized that not only were they born in the same hospital, they also lived on the same street. That street, as you may have guessed it, was Heffron Drive. Not wanting their project to fall apart, Kendall, who is also a front member of Big Time Rush, helped secure Dustin a spot in Big Time Rush’s touring band so they could work together to create music for Heffron Drive. Now, the guys are ready to present their debut disc, ‘Happy Moments,’ to the world and most importantly their dedicated fans, who will have a chance to hear their favourite songs on The Happy Mistakes Tour.

Would you like to see Heffron Drive and opening act Mike Tompkins when they roll into Toronto on Tuesday, September 9 for a show at The Opera House?
