MUSIC MONDAY: Springing into Spring with Vibrant Tunes

Although the weather may indicate otherwise, spring is officially here and a new playlist fit for the season is a necessity.

You may have noticed that there was no new Music Monday playlist on my blog in February. In case you missed it, I partnered with Girls’ Life magazine to curate five Valentine’s Day-themed playlists covering everything from love songs for happy couples to girl power anthems for the single and proud chicas. These playlists are guaranteed to hit you right in the feels all year long!

For this month’s playlist, I’m starting off spring on a musical high with 15 handpicked tunes that will bring out all the good vibes! Before you listen to it in full, preview my selections from three of the hottest artists in the industry.

“LIKE I WOULD” by Zayn

Zayn Malik broke off from his One Direction bandmates to take time off and experiment with new projects. Then, rumours started swirling about an official solo music venture. Zayn officially responded to the speculation by dropping his single “Pillowtalk” and giving fans their first taste of his new sound. Now, leading up to the release of the full-length disc ‘Mind of Mine’ on March 25, Zayn has been surprise releasing his favourite songs from the album. Fan-favourite “LIKE I WOULD” is an upbeat track about reconnecting with a former fling.

*This post marks the first in my new monthly series of Spotify playlists that I will be making and featuring on my blog.

Christmas is my favourite time of the year! I love spending time with my family and friends, getting the chance to rejuvenate after a long and hard year of work and just taking in the spirit of the season. Whether you are opening presents or going on a road trip, you will definitely want some tunes to amp up the holiday vibe.

This month, I have compiled a list of some of my most-played tracks over the past few weeks and my new favourite Christmas classics. Before you listen to my full December playlist, preview some of my favourites.

“December” by Ariana Grande

Pop songstress Ariana Grande gave her fans the best surprise Christmas present ever with the release of her second Christmas-themed EP, ‘Christmas & Chill.’ In each of the six original songs on the EP, Grande sings about a winter romance that is the perfect Christmas gift all on its own. This cute and catchy track is definitely one we can “Focus” on!

“You’re Such A” by Hailee Steinfeld

We all know and love Hailee Steinfeld for her outstanding performances in films like True Grit and Pitch Perfect 2, but get ready to become obsessed with her incredible new music! “You’re Such A,” one of four catchy tracks on Steinfeld’s debut EP ‘HAIZ,’ is a sassy shout out to an ex-boyfriend who just isn’t taking the hint.

George Watsky – who raps under the name Watsky – is a writer and performer with a fresh style. Hailing from San Francisco, California, Watsky is known for his versatility – his sound switches between silly and serious, technically complex and simply heartfelt. His self-titled album ‘Watsky’, which was released in 2010, peaked at #7 on the iTunes Hip Hop Charts. In addition to performing on The Ellen Show and Last Call with Carson Daly, Watsky, whose fast rapping skills have made him a viral internet sensation, was recently dubbed as a ‘Big Sound of 2011’ by The Next Big Sound alongside Mac Miller, Kreayshawn and Skrillex.

Watsky will be playing a show this Monday, November 10 at The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto, Ontario.

Tori Kelly and Shawn Hook filled hearts and set them on fire in Toronto

One of my favourite weeks of the year is Canadian Music Week! For a music fan like me, it’s amazing to see many of my favourite Canadian and international artists congregate in my city to perform and meet their fans. This year, I had the great opportunity to check out one of my favourite rising stars, Tori Kelly, with support Shawn Hook at the Virgin Mobile Mod Club!

EMI Canada recording artist Shawn Hook opened up the show with several fan favourites including “Dirty Little War” and “Two Hearts Set On Fire.” Shortly after, Tori hit the stage to a screaming, energetic crowd, which she continuously raved about throughout the show. She even said it was one of her favourite shows she had ever played! She performed her new single “Fill A Heart” and many of her other fun songs like “Confetti”, but she also covered hits like Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z’s “Suit and Tie” and The Beatles’ “Blackbird.”
