Playlist: April finds & faves

April finds & faves playlist cover - Angela McLean

I finished another year of university (one more to go!), baseball season is in full swing and the nice weather is slowly arriving. It might still be spring, but I think I can shamelessly be in full summer mode! Plus, so many artists are already releasing their summer singles and I’m obsessing over every single one of them.

Read on for this month’s ‘finds & faves’ playlist and my most played tracks.

Find: “Inhale” – Duke Dumont feat. Ebenezer

To whoever tweeted last month that the “new Duke Dumont track is STRAIGHT FIRE,” thank you – you were totally right. This incredibly upbeat and undeniably fun song compares a fling to a “Friday night out.” Singer Ebenezer is clear about his demands but oh so smooth. Give it a listen and see what I mean! “Inhale” will definitely be a summer festival staple.

Fave: “Something More” – Ralph

After seeing Ralph open for Charlotte Cardin, a fellow Canadian talent, in Toronto last month, I dug into her discography and fell in love with this single. The production and pulse of the song makes it nearly impossible to resist grooving along and the message is so relevant whether you’re in love (and questioning it) or just feel trapped by your own personal environment. If you’re in the Toronto area, don’t miss Ralph’s recently-announced headlining gig at The Great Hall on June 29.

Find: “Call Out My Name” – The Weeknd

When ‘My Dear Melancholy,’ came out this month, this was the first song to bless my ears. The emotionally raw call out to ex Selena Gomez sent the internet into a frenzy, especially after The Weeknd cried while performing the song at Coachella a few days later. I mean, are we just supposed to ignore lines like “I almost cut a piece of myself for your life,” a seemingly obvious reference to Sel’s kidney transplant?! I was living for all of the revelations. I particularly love that this song reminds me so much of The Weeknd’s classic sound. Give me more!

Fave: “Let Me Go” – Hailee Steinfeld with Alesso, Florida Georgia Line and WATT

Hailee Steinfeld has never stopped impressing me, consistently delivering such great pop ballads and dance tracks. “Let Me Go” is no exception and with Alesso, Florida Georgina Line and WATT added to the mix, it was destined to be a hit. I love listening to this song on blast in the car or through my headphones, and always find myself “ooh”ing along. One might say I just can’t let it go.

Find: “One Kiss” – Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa

Have you ever stumbled upon a song that’s so addicting that you put it on and then it comes on again…and again…and again until you lose track of how many times it’s played, but you don’t care? That’s the effect “One Kiss” has on me. It was about time these two stars collaborated and I could not be more in love with the result. I know I will continue to have it on repeat all summer!

Fave: “Tequilawine” – Olivia O’Brien

This is the one song from Olivia O’Brien’s debut EP I could never seem to vibe with – until recently, after I had a bit of a musical epiphany. It is just so cute and catchy! You can play this song at your summer parties, while you daydrink with your crew or whenever you feel like a good karaoke session. Regardless of how you choose to enjoy it, “Tequilawine” is a must-listen after all.
