July Playlist: Summer Fling

July Playlist Summer Fling cover

Summer is always a hot season for love. There’s simply no denying that summer romances just hit different and inspire endless possibilities for incredible memories. From sunsets to patio nights and drive-in dates, there’s so much to see and do with your boo (or your BFFs, because you are just as amazing on your own!).

Of course, you need a bangin’ soundtrack to fill the air during your summer road trips (with the windows down, of course), pool parties and chill days in. Luckily, fun and flirty love songs are a summer staple. Check out 60 of them — plus a breakup banger or two for those lost loves — below on this month’s playlist.

“Chase the Summer” – Chantel Jeffries feat. Jeremih

Get ready for an endless summer with DJ and producer Chantel Jeffries’ club-ready summer single as your amp-up anthem! Joining forces with rapper Jeremih, Chantel’s latest release is perfect for every summer occasion — the beat is irresistible and instantly puts you in a good mood. The music video will also spark your inner travel bug, so stick around YouTube to start trip planning with some stunning travel vlogs.

“Mad Love” – Mabel

I first got hooked on U.K. singer Mabel — one of my favourite new artists of 2019 — when I discovered her breakout single “Don’t Call Me Up.” Her follow-up smash “Mad Love” has been on repeat all month long. It’s definitely fun and flirty and so catchy, and you’ll have no choice but to turn up the volume every single time it comes on the radio! (P.S. If you live in Toronto like me, don’t miss Mabel at the Velvet Underground on August 17! From what I’ve seen, she puts on an awesome show.)

“Lips Don’t Lie” – Ally Brooke feat. A Boogie Wit da Hoodie

You know and love her from Fifth Harmony, but it’s time to get to know Ally Brooke in a new light — her own light, to be exact. Ally has been killing the solo game, releasing back-to-back bops that blend together urban pop, R&B and rap. Her last single “Low Key” with Tyga was one of my fave songs for months; “Lips Don’t Lie” is an equally sensual and sassy track perfect for summer. I need an EP stat!

“How Do You Sleep?” – Sam Smith

This playlist wouldn’t be a realistic portrayal of summer flings without a breakup bop. Luckily, Sam Smith never disappoints. But summer is too short to waste time crying, so his latest hit “How Do You Sleep?” focuses less on the tears and more on realizing you deserve better than heartbreak. The last scene in the song’s music video features Sam flicking a single tear off his face, and if you’ve ever been there you know how empowering and freeing that moment is. It’s the time when you say to yourself what he sings in the second verse: “I won’t lose like that, I won’t lose myself.”

“Drunk and I Miss You” – KIDDO feat. Decco

Though I’m sure we’d all like to hope we could easily cut off a disappointing crush or ex, sometimes we really want what we can’t have. This song is gospel for those of us who find ourselves deep in our feelings, throwing back a drink to make our heartache go away but realizing it’s only bringing the feelings right back. We’re drunk and we miss them — but somehow we know we’ll all be OK.
