Halloween is finally here! You have your costume, your candy supply (which you may or may not keep to yourself), your decorations and spooky spirit. But there’s still one thing missing — your spooktacular soundtrack!

“bury a friend” – Billie Eilish
Billie’s entire ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ era is scary good. Its dark, moody singles like “bad guy” and “when the party’s over,” plus the overall story arc, are very well suited for the spookiest season of the year. “bury a friend” — one of my faves off the album — was inspired in part by an episode of sleep paralysis and written from the perspective of the monster under Billie’s bed. I already have chills!
“I’m In Love With a Monster” – Fifth Harmony
You may remember this Hotel Transylvania 2 song from my October finds & faves playlist last year, and I can happily report I still think it’s bewitchingly good! And yes, I still miss 5H as well.
“Monster Mash” – Bobby “Boris” Pickett
Without fail, I always find myself breaking out into song with “Monster Mash” every Halloween. Sorry, I can’t help it, it’s simply habit. Grab your boos and add this to the party karaoke line-up — you know you know the words!
“Sweet but Psycho” – Ava Max
Ava Max’s breakout single doubles as a modern-day Halloween smash, with lyrics like “Oh, she’s sweet but a psycho / A little bit psycho / At night she’s screamin’ / ‘I’m-ma-ma-ma out my mind’.” The catchy song, which has plenty of fun playing on the “crazy girl” trope, has already inspired some unforgettable, and easily recreatable Halloween looks.
“Thriller” – Michael Jackson
Come on — this is simply an MJ classic! “Thriller” always brings me back to elementary school dances and haunted houses in the neighbourhood, and you certainly don’t have a complete Halloween playlist without it. Pull out a dance move or two and feel this song in your bones. 💀
