“Like This” — Sofi Tukker

I haven’t stopped raving about Sofi Tukker for the past two months, after finally having the chance to see the party duo live in Montreal (at one of their unforgettable Animal Talk club parties, nonetheless). Side note: They put on a MUST-see show — and it takes a lot for me to say that!

They premiered this song in Montreal and I was immediately counting down the days until their ‘Dancing On The People’ EP release to get the studio version for my playlist. It’s an irresistible jam and always puts me in the best mood! Take a listen and try to prove me wrong. ㋡

August Playlist: Songs of Summer 2019

August Playlist: Songs of Summer 2019 Playlist Cover

I could go on and on about the power of music, but I’m always amazed how certain songs bring us back to different memories, times and places. I can re-listen to songs from my childhood and be instantly reminded of old friends, family trips and various celebrations.

This long weekend, as another wild summer comes to an end, I’ve been riding the wave of nostalgia with all my fave songs of the summer on repeat. Keep scrolling to check out my final ode to Summer 2k19 and some of the new memories tied to the tracks from this month’s playlist!

“Only Human” – Jonas Brothers

Happiness this summer truly began August 23, when the Jonas Brothers blessed Toronto with their long-awaited Happiness Begins Tour (my first of five shows that I’m currently set to see on this tour – don’t judge!). If I’m being real, the JoBros are one of my OG favourite music acts, along with Hilary Duff and Taylor Swift, so this comeback was truly a BIG deal!

This groovy, ’80s-inspired tune is one of my favourite songs from the new album and it’s even better live. In terms of the big picture, “Only Human” is one of my top picks for official song of the summer, tied with “Old Town Road,” “Señorita” and “bad guy” (mentioned below). Let me know in the comments below what you would pick as your song of the summer!

Pride Playlist

Pride Playlist

It’s time to get loud and be proud! June is Pride Month. Regardless of where and what you’re doing to celebrate, there’s no better time to let loose and be yourself. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Life is too short to be anything but in love with yourself and your life. If you’ve been slacking in that area, start now!

Amplify your Pride Month festivities with my 40-track playlist, linked below — and keep scrolling to preview some of my favourite Pride plays, new and old.

“Girls Like Girls” – Hayley Kiyoko

Girls can like girls, just like boys—and what about it? That’s the attitude “Lesbian Jesus” Hayley Kiyoko takes on in her smash single “Girls Like Girls,” which has amassed over 150 million listens online. From the start of her career, Kiyoko has been vocal about struggles faced by the LGBTQ community in her music, raising awareness of violence against transgender women on “One Bad Night” and highlighting self-doubt on “This Side of Paradise.” She’s described “Girls Like Girls” as a “female anthem for a girl stealing another guy’s girl,” contrasting the stereotypical girl-steals-girlfriend’s-guy/guy-steals-guy friend’s-girl themes.

May Playlist: Girl Power 2 The End

Girl Power Playlist Cover

Earlier this month, we celebrated some of the best women in our lives on Mother’s Day. Just a few days later, a controversial ban in Alabama affecting a sizable amount of women – and arguably all women in some form or another – made international headlines. Though these are two separate events, both renewed my sense of love, appreciation and faith in my fellow women. Our actions, the response, the outcry — there’s so many reasons to have and hold on to hope.

I’ve dabbled in the themes of female independence and self love in previous playlists, but I wanted to dedicate this month’s playlist to celebrating and championing unwavering girl power.

Scroll down to listen to the 25-track playlist on Spotify and preview some of my favourite empowering new releases.

“Cattitude” – Miley Cyrus feat. RuPaul

‘SHE IS COMING.’ Miley may have adopted a popular “Stan Twitter” catchphrase for her latest EP title, but ‘SHE IS COMING’ also has a bit of a deeper and timely meaning. The six-track EP – the first of three – is a bold and uncensored declaration of owning oneself – the present and past – and letting the world know you won’t go down unheard. “Cattitude” is the record’s buzzworthy lead, with a feature from RuPaul of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It also boasts already-viral lyrics like “I love you, Nicki, but I listen to Cardi.” Less scandalous but more so important is the line “Don’t worry ’bout me, go and get yourself a hobby.” AKA do you, boo – always.
