Am I the only one that thinks September is one of the weirdest months? You fall back into a routine at school or work (and I’m a lady who likes routines), reconnect with friends you lost touch with in the summer and get to enjoy the last of the nice weather – all good things! But then things start getting real busy real fast, everyone’s trying to juggle all their responsibilities and, most annoyingly, you may need a jacket and shorts in the same day. (Seriously, this is the reason I get sick every fall.)

What I’m trying to say is that there is a reason this month’s ‘finds & faves’ playlist has several upbeat summer songs in addition to some colder tracks, both in tone and theme.

If you’re new to my blog, every month I share a playlist featuring my top new music finds and older releases that are back on repeat (or I’m just late to the party on discovering!). Clocking in at just under two hours, scroll down for September’s playlist and a few highlighted listens.

Find: “Radar” – Whethan feat. HONNE

You can file this under collaborations I never knew I wanted but am SO grateful to have. HONNE is one of my favourite British duos and Whethan is an equally excellent Chicagoan DJ. They bring out the best in each other for this club-ready smash that is irresistibly groovy yet soothing at the same time. Believe me, you will have this on repeat and you will not be able to stop.

Fave: “Delicate” – Taylor Swift

I must admit “Delicate” was never one of my top tracks off ‘reputation,’ but after hearing it live this summer I developed a newfound appreciation for it. There’s something hauntingly beautiful – and perhaps delicate – about this track right from the start. Even if you don’t consider yourself a “Swiftie,” this song is worth a listen! You get to hear a more vulnerable and hesitant side of Taylor and it’s both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

Find: “Where Angels Fear To Tread” – Disclosure

The latest proof that Disclosure can do no wrong: THIS SONG! It balances their expertly-crafted house sound with a nostalgic touch by way of a classic crooner jazz sample (The Four Freshmen’s “Fools Rush In”). You’ll start off swaying back and forth and end up going off on the dance floor – it’s the best of both worlds.

Fave: “Fade Out” – James Bay

I’ve been in a James Bay mood these past few weeks and keep coming back to “Fade Out.” It features the common pop/indie-rock trope of “the late night caller” (“But I call you back ‘cause I’m a fool,” he sings) but embraces the toss-up between pleading to be let go and giving in. Additionally, in typical Bay fashion, it is very cleverly written and produced. As one YouTube commenter pointed out, “Fade Out” ends with an actual fadeout and that’s pretty genius if you ask me.

Find: “Taki Taki” – DJ Snake feat. Selena Gomez, Ozuna and Cardi B

“Taki Taki” may very well be one of the most hyped and contested collaborations in history. My verdict: It’s a bop. I seriously love this song and think it’s a total jam and Selena’s verse especially knocked it out of the park for me. I would’ve loved to have this song as one of my summer staples but it will certainly keep the summer vibes alive throughout the fall.

Fave: “Find What You’re Looking For” – Olivia O’Brien

If you like Taylor Swift’s “Delicate,” you’ll love Olivia O’Brien’s “Find What You’re Looking For.” The song is about wishing someone the best after loving them for so long and that moment when you truly realize you deserve better. Unless you’re extremely lucky, I think we all go through this at least once in our lives and Olivia relays it beautifully.
