Fun fact: I’m actually quarter Irish, so celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is right up my alley! If I can’t celebrate it with endless amounts of beer (sorry, I just can’t get into the taste!), I’ll get into it the only way I know how — with music.
Wherever your St. Patty’s Day plans take you, this soundtrack will make the festivities complete. Turn up your speakers and check out these six songs that embrace the luck of the Irish.
1. “Lucky Strike” – Troye Sivan
Finding someone worthy of your love is serious luck. On this groovy and sensual track, Troye Sivan asks a boy who “tastes like Lucky Strikes”—the well-known, non-filtered and very-addictive cigarette brand—to tell him all the ways to love him right. If this song were set on St. Patrick’s Day, I get the feeling that there would be two very happy-go-lucky lovers partaking in the celebrations, if you know what I mean. Get it, Troye.
2. “Get Lucky” – Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers
Do your St. Patrick’s Day plans have you “up all night for good fun”? Pharrell Williams can relate. I’m throwing it back to his mega-successful 2013 collaboration with Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers because, come on, just look at the title of the song.
3. “Just My Luck” – Tia Ray featuring Kehlani
Though this song still centres on the idea of luck, unfortunately that luck isn’t always a good thing. For Kehlani, a few too many drinks seem to lead to a few too many calls to an ex (or just a failed booty call) in the middle of the night. Ideally, sober Kehlani would know to stay away and let go of what’s gone. Unfortunately, drunk Kehlani is a little hung up and can’t seem to put down the phone. Better luck next time?
4. “Lucky Star” – Madonna
For another St. Patrick’s Day-approved throwback, Madonna’s hit ‘80s single about a lover who is the total package reminds us to always keep our lucky stars close.
5. “Lucky” – Jason Mraz featuring Colbie Caillat
For the morning after your wild night when you’re all in your feels, Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat’s adorable duet about being in love with a best friend calls for some swaying and singing along, plus a few sob fests into the nearest set of tissues you can find. Sober or not, no one can resist a cute love song.
6. “Get Lucky” – Gavin James (Cover)
One of my favourite Irish singers, Gavin James, did a slowed-down, mellowed-out cover of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.” It’s the perfect double dose of that Irish luck.
Let me know if you’re listening to any “lucky” songs!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day xx
